Romans 12:1-3 (NRSV)
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.3 Consider him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners, so that you may not grow weary or lose heart.
Many of us are familiar with races and runners. A key thing for a runner is getting that “Second Wind”. At that point where a runner feels like giving up, weary and frustrated looking at the finish line still a ways off, he or she will get a fresh power surge of energy and a new source of determination to finish the race and finish well.
There are times in our Christian walk where we all need a “Second Wind”. There are times where we need a fresh empowerment for the race that God has been set before us. We must see our YES even if it’s off in the distance.
We as a people have to understand that it takes perseverance to do anything over the long run. This YES has to be able to endure the hard times. I don’t understand, many people want the power, the anointing, the oil, the fame, the name and the prestige but many don’t want to go thru the process that it takes to get there. In this race you will be persecuted, betrayed, talked about, misused, mishandled, crushed, pressed and shaken but it all prepares you for the finish line, the promise, the destiny. You can’t just throw up your hands and give up, you must persevere!
How do we persevere? Keep looking unto Jesus! Distractions can throw you off course. Those distractions can be people, circumstances, personal emotions or even unresolved issues. A wise runner doesn’t look to the left nor the right, they are not concerned about their competition but they are focused on the finish line. Jesus is the prize and He is the model, the pace-setter for all that we do. In order for me to run well, I have to keep looking unto Jesus. Stay focus, your almost there!
Just in case you have gotten distracted or off track, I challenge you to
