Rebuilding from the Rubble
Nehemiah 1: 1-6, 11
The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven, And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments: Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.
O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
We all encounter problems or challenges, some which seem so devastating to the point we don’t feel we can’t recover. Maybe friends have let us down, bad new arrives, illness strikes, bereavement happens, all kinds of thing that make you feel bewildered or helpless.
The wall and their temple was destroyed. The Jewish people were in a states of distress and devastation. They were in a were in a “code blue” situation. They needed something to be done quickly, the walls were broken down and the gates were burned with fire.
Some of you are in that place right now, your wall has been destroyed and it seems like you have become the target for every attack of the enemy and he is coming at your hard on every hard. In this place all you can do is pray. A true prayer life begins in a place of anguish, a place where lifetime decision are made. Everywhere you look everywhere you turn it seems to be chaos and you’re screaming help my situation is critical, help my situation is on life support, help I’m in a code blue type situation but God is testing you what are you going to do with the pieces.
Let me tell you what I believe Nehemiah did, he grabbed a brick placed it on the ground and there goes joy, BRICK there goes peace, BRICK, there goes happiness, BRICK there goes healing, BRICK there goes restoration, BRICK there goes rejuvenation, BRICK there goes self-esteem, BRICK there goes deliverance, BRICK there goes the grass growing again by the time you look up, the wall will be rebuilt. Stop looking at that which is and look to that which is to come! Let God build you again!
There was a problem but through prayer God sent provision!
